Ignoring the PFO of an Open Laptop.

It’s not a Yield sign folks. If the laptop is open in front of you in a public place, it is workplace hotspot.

Why do well intentioned people just drive through this Productivity Stop Sign?

Those of us who make their living working remotely deal with this on the regular.

Let’s get the following out of the way:

  • I choose to spend a large part of my working day in cafe’s or on a barstool at the local pub.
  • I recognize that there is a direct correlation between this work environment choice and above stated occurrence.

That out of the way brings me to the main issue — people who either ignore or are oblivious to the subliminal signal of the Open Laptop.

IF, I was on my phone or even a tablet, I would then understand those who cut into your flow state to speak randomly about innocuous things and then walk away. Three quarters of society is usually on these products and may even be seen as a welcome sign by others in a pursuit of managing stagnant time.

I argue that this position is not the same with the laptop group of folks in same environment.
