The Power of a Game of Jenga. For Sanity

Hear me out on this one. I’ll set the tone as to why I strongly advocate for a good old game of Jenga.

For the record, I have zero affiliation with the brand and actually never played it prior to my last few years as a sole female startup founder.

About a year ago, my spouse and I decided to take a mid afternoon reprieve and meet up at a local pub that had a bunch of board games. We were both getting sick of the fact that 98% of our usual conversations centred on our work. I decided we should check out the games they had piled up on a shelf.

There it was. A beaten up box of a most likely donated old game of Jenga.

We both sarcastically decided we would play, mostly to make fun of it. How can a game of fucking pieces of wood be remotely interesting to people dealing with real shit?

I was 100% wrong.

We pour the chunks of wood on the table and begin stacking. Immediately, the conversation turns. This meet up is no longer a way to talk work quickly while the kids are still in school. Instead, it’s back to being an open slate of dialogue.

Superfluous conversation that reignites the banter that made you attracted to your S.O. in the first place.
